In John 2:1-11, Jesus’ mother is at a wedding in Cana of Galilee, and Jesus and his disciples are invited too. When the wine runs out, Mary tells Jesus. He tells her that his hour has not yet come. Mary tells the servants to do whatever he tells them.
There are six stone water jars used for Jewish purification. Jesus tells the servants to fill them with water, and they fill them to the brim. He then tells them to draw some out and take it to the steward of the feast.
The steward tastes the water that has become wine. He does not know where it came from, although the servants who drew the water know. He calls the bridegroom and says that the good wine has been kept until now. John describes this as Jesus’ first sign in Cana: he reveals his glory, and his disciples believe in him.
This is a shortened retelling in our own words. Read the linked Bible passage for the full account, and use the separate family story article for reading and discussion.
Use crayons or colored pencils for the robes, courtyard, and jars. Put the six sheets in order and invite your child to describe each scene.

The pictures are illustrations inspired by John 2:1-11. Faces, clothing, architecture, utensils, and poses are artistic interpretations. The third design shows all six large stone jars. The fourth is a close-up of one jar; the others are outside the picture.
The Bible does not describe a visible flash, a special gesture, or the exact moment when the water becomes wine. These designs avoid adding those details. Only a few guests and disciples are drawn to keep the scenes easy to color; the pictures do not show every person at the wedding.
