About these coloring pages

Color the story together

Six Jesus Walks on Water coloring pages follow the disciples' boat, Jesus on the water, Peter's steps, his call for help, Jesus' rescue and the calm afterward. Download individual PDFs or the complete story pack.

These sheets use simple cartoon outlines and open areas for crayons or colored pencils. Each design is a separate printable, so you can choose the moment that suits your lesson.

Read the Bible account

Read Matthew 14:22-33 for the complete account. The following is a shortened summary in our own words.

Jesus sent the disciples ahead by boat while he went up the mountain to pray. The boat struggled against wind and waves. Late in the night, Jesus came toward them, walking on the sea. The frightened disciples thought they were seeing a ghost, but Jesus reassured them.

Peter asked Jesus to call him onto the water. Jesus invited him, and Peter stepped out. When Peter noticed the wind, he became afraid and began to sink. He called for help, and Jesus immediately took hold of him. After they entered the boat, the wind stopped. The people in the boat worshiped Jesus and acknowledged him as the Son of God.

A simple activity for home or Sunday school

Use the six pictures to retell the account. Ask children to point to the moment Peter asks for help and the moment Jesus takes his hand. End with the calm boat and the disciples' response to Jesus.

Questions to talk about

  • Where was Jesus while the disciples went ahead?
  • Why were the disciples frightened when they saw Jesus?
  • Who stepped out of the boat?
  • What did Jesus do when Peter began to sink?
  • How did those in the boat respond afterward?

Notes for parents and teachers

These pictures follow Matthew's account, which includes Peter stepping onto the water. This is a different event from Jesus calming the storm while he had been asleep in a boat. Only some disciples are pictured to keep the artwork clear; the group size in a picture is not a claim about how many were present. Faces, clothing, boat shape, water and sky are artistic interpretations. The pages illustrate a miracle in this account, not an ordinary swimming or walking activity. The rescue is shown gently, without distressing detail.
