Read Genesis 11:1-9 for the complete account. The following is a shortened summary in our own words.
The people shared one language. They settled on a plain in Shinar and made bricks, using tar for mortar. They planned a city and a tower reaching toward the sky, seeking a name for themselves and wanting to avoid being scattered.
The Lord saw their work and confused their language so they could not understand one another. He scattered them across the earth, and they stopped building the city. The place was called Babel because the Lord confused their language there.
Put the pictures in order and talk about how the builders' plans changed. Use the empty speech bubbles to discuss understanding one another, without inventing a particular historical language for each person.
Genesis 11:1-9 does not name Nimrod as the tower's builder or say the tower collapsed, burned or was struck by lightning. Nimrod is associated with Babel in Genesis 10:8-10, but that is a different passage. We therefore do not identify a crowned leader as Nimrod in these pictures. The stepped tower, tents, clothing and small groups are artistic interpretations; the Bible does not provide a construction drawing or the tower's height. The story does not mean that speaking different languages is bad. The speech bubbles contain no historical words or scripts.
